The reason it doesn't last long is because of the loot it provides, particularly for ironman accounts. I could increase the length of time it lasts, but decrease the chance to get loot linearly, that way more people can reach it and mine it, but the effective loot will be the same.

any update on this? Stars gone within 30 seconds and then 2.5 hours till next, remove rangers and fury and just have the random stuff (food, arrows, addy plate) with stardust

1000 slayer points isn't hard to achieve... Gives yourself a target to aim for, whilst gaining some nice slayer xp.
