In my opinion, making trips to the bank is a very fair tradeoff, especially when you consider how valuable gem mining is to the ironmen seeking an alternative crafting method.
Additionally, the underground portion of the gem mine has access to a bank deposit box, so this would only diminish the perks of reaching Extreme ($250) donator status.
