I see this asked very often mainly at home by new players that have just joined so I figured why not make a guide.
This guide is for normal account modes, and Ironmen as well.
You should definitely setup 2fa on your account as well, it gives your account the security and you also get extra bonuses from vote book bonuses!
Also for anyone wanting to know XP rates for each game mode before you choose you can find the XP rates here.
Once you've created your account and selected your game mode I highly suggest doing ::thieve and getting yourself some starter cash.
For Ironmen modes I suggest doing this as well, you can gather enough GP to get all the tools you'll need which you can find at the ironman store found at ::shops
Also note, once you've selected an ironman mode you can re-log to auto-complete all the PvP related achievements.
Irons:
Once you've reached around 50+ Thieveing I suggest you start Thieving Master Farmers for seeds to get started with Farming.
Normal accounts:
You can stick here as long as you like, go ahead and get 99 or just get yourself enough GP to get your tools and some starter gear.
For Irons: I suggest you start Fishing and Cooking so that you'll have food stocked up for starting combat. Once you reach 65 fishing you can start fishing for karambwan which are a great source of food as they only require level 1 cooking to cook.
Note: You will need the bait called Karambwanji to fish these, you can get these with a small fishing net on the Karamja docks.
Also start doing your farm runs while fishing so that you can get herbs stacked up for potions, once you can plant Ranarrs I highly suggest doing that for Prayer Potions.
For normal accounts:
You can go ahead and do the same as it never hurts to have food stocked up, especially considering that you won't have much GP at the moment to just buy your own, unless you want to thieve and buy lobsters from the general store at ::shops
Now, while fishing and cooking if you feel like taking a break I suggest going ahead and training your Agility. While here on Alora you do have a rest option to restore your run, a lot of players find Agility to be one of the least fun skills, which I'd have to agree on. So go ahead and knock that out to whatever level you'd like for now.
Once you're ready to continue with Agility you can find a detailed guide here
No, all rooftop courses do not work, you can do ::laps and it will display which courses work properly.
Note: you will need at least 35 Agility to do the Horror From The Deep quest.
This goes for irons and normal account modes, I highly suggest you start Slayer as soon as you've got some food and potions stocked up.
Training your combat through Slayer is a very efficient way of working towards maxing, and gaining money and progress on your account altogether.
There's a really good Slayer guide with a lot of tips and information regarding slayer tasks that was created by Mack that can be found here.
Once you've acquired some slayer points there's a slayer point store which you can buy quite a few good things including perks for training slayer, and the infamous slayer helm.
Once you've gotten the hang of combat and whatnot, you'll want to go for some goals like obtaining a Fire Cape which will require you to obtain some range equipment, training your prayer, and leveling up your combat stats.
- For range I suggest getting at the least 70+ before attempting the fightcaves, and for acquiring dragonhide armor as an iron you'll need to craft that yourself or obtain it from clues, you can choose whichever way you choose to do it.
- For prayer you can kill dragons either in the wilderness or there are some in the Catacombs of Kourend that can be killed without worrying about being pked in the wilderness by other players.
- Another great goal to set is getting the stats and gear to start doing barrows. The barrows armor pieces are a great source of armor to use basically everywhere whether it be doing slayer, or just training combat in general or when you start bossing!
Ironman and non iron included
- Starting godwars
- Starting Zulrah for a blowpipe which is amazing for doing other PvM and bossing
- Obtaining an imbuement scroll for a slayer helm later on (this can be done from the ::store)
- Obtaining the rings from Dagannoth kings (berserker, and archer are the two you'll mainly be after)
- Getting slayer high enough for things like Kraken for a trident, and Cerberus for the boots.
Also don't forget to checkout the Daily Tasks which also give great rewards!
Here on Alora we also have the Achievement Diaries which you'll want to complete as the equipment gives bonuses, as well as the diaries themselves have great perks!
Another great thing is voting, you can vote once every 12 hours by doing ::vote you will then be prompted to vote on the voting sites, then you'll receive a vote book which can either be claimed for bonuses, or sold to other players for around 5-8m.
Here are the rewards from the Vote Shop;
Once you've gotten the hang of the game and decided what paths you want to take, and once you've obtained some of the main key items you'll be able to start end game goals like Godwars, Chambers of Xeric, Theatre of Blood, Nightmare and loads of other fun things to obtain even more gear and better items!
There's a couple things that might have been missed that some other players may have done, or might want to add just to give a few other tips. Everyone plays the game differently especially when playing a restricted mode such as ironman mode, so if anyone has anything to add feel free!
Nonetheless I hope this helps some of our newer players out as I said, I see people asking at home "where should I start" "whats good for money?" and I see it daily so hopefully this will be a help to some people.
We hope to see you stick around, I can assure you Alora is full of things to do to keep you from getting bored.
If you have any questions at all feel free to PM me in-game anytime, I'm usually on. Or checkout ::staff and see which staff members are online and they'll be more than glad to help you. Best of luck on your gains!
