What is your suggestion?:

Make a non-degradable version of the smithing catalyst

705497fb55ba5d5d37c12a53c6e0ed9b.png

Is this in OSRS?:

No, but a similar perk is on Alora

Courtesy of @To gain

Blast Furnace -> 50% coal reduction (existing Alora perk)

Regular Furnace -> 50% coal reduction (suggested Alora perk - unlocked via Giants Foundry)

This basically balances blast furnace and regular furnace.

At blast furnace you put in gp in exchange for the perk.

Regular furnace you put in work at the Giants' Foundry in exchange for the perk.

Has this suggestion been accepted already?:

No

How would this benefit Alora?:

Currently, smithing catalyst cost 15 foundry reputation and are completely useless.  The only reason to purchase it is for the collection log unlock.  All it does is cut down the coal requirement for a single bar by half.

Adding a non-degradable version would make the reward worthwhile to get.

normal smithing:

1 runite ore + 8 coal = 1 runite bar

smithing with catalyst:

1 runite ore + smithing catalyst + 4 coal = 1 runite bar

– ___________________________________________________________

smithing catalyst = 4 coal

Unless there's a non-degradable version of this item, smithing catalysts will be complete junk.

No support. If its degradable on osrs and people think its worth while to get on there then theres no reason it shouldnt be worth while to get here. 50% off coal requirements is pretty good.

If its non degradeable then everyone will get  all the rewards and stop playing the minigame. This reward will keep players coming back and not have a dead minigame.

NO SUPPORT

I understand the intention behind this, however I do agree that if this isn't in OSRS then it really shouldn't be added to Alora (Obviously this doesn't align with a lot of other 'alora-additions').

Also at such a low cost, I don't see this being a viable choice for the game or the mini-game health.

Spoken like someone who has never done giants' foundry or used smithing catalysts before for training.

At the current rate...

the full outfit = 15k reputation ->  ~ 100 total swords

@ 6 min / sword -> that's about 10 hours of constant attention (not an afk activity).

@ 4 coal / smithing catalyst & @ 15 reputation / smithing catalyst -> 15k reputation (10 hours of work) is worth ~4,000 coal.

Are you seriously telling me that this reward will keep players on Alora coming back to Giants' Foundry?  10 hours of work in exchange for 4,000 coal.

You might not agree with my solution, but at the very least, admit there's an issue here with how smithing catalysts are balanced on Alora.

I'm not saying to make the non-degradable version 15 reputation to buy.  More like 15k+ or log/shop completion if you ask me... but that's besides the point.

I'd rather leave decisions like that to Omicron.  I just test the content, identify issues, and suggest ways we can improve the game.

Dont support, if its degradable in OSRS then it should be the same in alora, stop trying to find ways to make everything so much easier. Let people grind.

The time investment to reward ratio for the catalyst is unrealistic; the thing has almost no value. I think a chargeable, nondegradable catalyst is favorable.

To also get a worthwhile lot of the catalyst, the number of bars used to how much coal you save by purchasing a catalyst doesn't even come close to being worth purchasing.

No support, sorry but we already have a permanent 50% coal cost at blast furnace.

Not only is it not in osrs, but what to gain said is just another reason why this would be too op. so once again. no support.

Often times, things work better on Alora without the need for degrading.

Like crystal tools/equipment, tentacles, and infernal tools.

Would you like those to be degradable like OSRS as well?

What's my point?  Matching OSRS 100% isn't always the answer.

There's nothing wrong with discussing issues and ways to make Giants' Foundry more worth doing on Alora.

Like I'm absolutely for letting people grind things out... but the grind needs to be realistic.

I've done the grinding and knocked out the smith's outfit myself.

I can tell you from experience, no one on Alora will actively grind Giants' Foundry for smithing catalysts.  Why?

1. they're only good for making bars at regular furnace, so it doesn't drastically affect the current blast furnace META

bars enter the game through what channels?

- pvm keys/chests/drops (passive method)

- blast furnace (fast method)

- regular furnaces (slow method)

- super heat

If there's already a 50% reduction at blast furnace, why can't players earn their way to a 50% reduction at a regular furnace?

Like... you support 50% reduction from OSRS at blast furnace (by default), but won't support a 50% reduction at a regular furnace (that players have to grind for)?

Sounds a little hypocritical to me.

2. coal is already super accessible -> no reason to go out of your way to do a minigame for it

- you can mine coal 3 tiles from a bank in the mining guild

- you can mine more coal passively than the coal you would save from buying catalysts in the same amount of time

- bosses drop it noted

Make this a high donor perk and watch all of the haters flip flop.

No support, sorry but we already have a permanent 50% coal cost at blast furnace. Not only is it not in osrs, but what to gain said is just another reason why this would be too op. so once again. no support.

Once again, my friend, I suggest you actually try out the activity first before you start jumping to conclusions.

It's not like the smithing catalyst's 50% reduction will stack with the 50% reduced coal cost we already have at blast furnace.

Test it out for us.  Can you even use a smithing catalyst at blast furnace?

That 50% reduced coal cost we already have at blast furnace  => is a deviation from OSRS => and an Alora exclusive perk

Is it really that crazy to consider adding 50% reduced coal cost at a regular furnace as another Alora perk (one that players actually need to work for)?

The way I see it.  This would be balancing regular furnaces and blast furnace.

Just watch.  Give it a few weeks, and the same haters will be suggesting we add a donor perk and/or a vote book perk for 1.2x or 1.5x reputation points.

'Oh stop complaining and trying to make everything easier Alan... '

Like... At least I'm testing the content and providing constructive feedback.  What are you guys doing?

youve stated already coal is not hard to get, with it not being hard to get and blast furnace already having a 50% reduction there is no need to have this item non degradable. The only thing I can think of to buff this is to give it more charges but non degradable would be too op.
