zo8454W.png Welcome to Motherlode Mine guide! zo8454W.png

The Motherlode Mine is a Mining training area located in the Dwarven Mine. At least 30 Mining is required to mine in the area. You can get to the mining area by talking to Teleport Wizard -> Skilling teles -> Motherlode mine. Alternatively, you can use Skills necklace to teleport there aswell.

Requirements:

30 Mining (72 Mining for upper level)

A pickaxe (INFERNAL PICKAXE NOT RECOMMENDED!)

Hammer

10M GP (Optional)

1. Mining the pay-dirt and turning them into ores

The mining area features Ore veins, which can be mined for pay-dirt. Additionally, player has a chance of receiving uncut gems from ore veins.

The motherlode mine consists of lower level mine and upper level mine. In order to get to upper level mines, you need a requirement of 72 Mining and to pay 10M one-time fee to Prospector Percy.

Upon reaching full inventory of pay-dirt, you have to deposit the inventory to hopper attached to water-circuit. Regular sack can hold up to 108 pay-dirt at once.

The ores can be collected from the sack on the other end of the circuit. Additionally, player has a chance of receiving golden nuggets.

Possible obtainable ores and their level requirements.

2. Hazards in Motherlode Mine

There are a few hazards in the mines, which can slow down your progress.

Rockfalls

Occasionally, some rocks will be falling from the roof to the ground, dealing 1-4 HP damage to player it falls on top of it. Rockfalls can be mined away for a small amount of Mining XP.

Broken struts

Occasionally, the struts of water wheels will break. If a player repairs the strut, water circle starts running for everybody.

You can fix the strut by clicking on "Hammer" option. (If you don't have a hammer, you can obtain it from any of the crates near bank chest)

3.Golden nuggets + rewards

By collecting ores from sack, you have a chance of obtaining golden nuggets, which can be used for various rewards. To use your golden nuggets, find Prospector Percy near bank chest in Motherlode Mine and trade him, you'll be shown a shop which looks like this:

Additionally, you can buy a larger sack for 200 nuggets, increasing the capacity from 108 pay-dirt to a maximum of 189 pay-dirt.

Tips:

  • Use the best pickaxe you can possibly wield.
  • Prospector Set as a whole gives 2% extra Mining XP, which is really useful for people who are going for 200M Mining XP.
  • It is definitely worth to buy upper level mine pass.
  • Bigger pay-dirt sack capacity is very convenient.

Thank you all for reading the guide! <3

Any thoughts on the experience per hour?
How does it compare to, say, mining gold ore in the Crafting Guild?

Any thoughts on the experience per hour?
How does it compare to, say, mining gold ore in the Crafting Guild?

Really interesting question! In fact, I tested out doing considerable amount of laps in Motherlode mine, Crafting guild and Falador mine (amethysts) with a dragon pickaxe.

A lap = Mining full inventory, banking, getting back to mining (in motherlode dumping into the hopper and collecting and banking aswell)

All of the XP/h listed below are X1 rates (without well bonus), so you have to multiply them in order to get your average XP/H.

Motherlode Mine:

Average lap time: 120 seconds

Average XP per lap = 2,935 xp

Average XP per hour = ~90k xp/h

PS: Very much of the XP/h is dependant on RNG, because higher tier ores from the sack = more xp

Crafting guild Mine (Gold Ores)

Average lap time: 100 seconds

Average XP per lap: 2,730 xp

Average XP per hour: ~100k xp/h

Falador Mine (Amethysts)

Average lap time: 160 seconds

Average XP per lap: 10,080 xp

Average XP per hour: ~230k xp/h

When comparing Motherlode mine with gold ore mining, there's a slight less XP/h, but at the same time not very huge one, considering the rewards of the minigame itself.

Hope it helped you! :)
