Drop Rates Explained

By: 650M

Hello everyone and welcome to my Drop Rates Explained Guide.

First thing is first, this isn't a guide on how many kills it's going to take you to get your Black Mask, or Blowpipe. This is a guide breaking down how RNG (random number generator) with the drop table works and how to view the drop tables in Alora. This is one of the easiest ways I've heard it explained!

To view the in game drop tables for NPCs in Alora go to your Game Panel (quest tab) and click 'view monster drop tables'.

x5eg3r.jpg

Next, we're going to go with Zulrah, and finding out the actual drop rate of the Pet Snakeling.

Like I said, click 'view monster drop tables' in your Game Panel and search for Zulrah. Then scroll until you find what item you want to know about, in this case the Pet Snakeling.

161nolv.jpg

You see that the Pet Snakeling is Very Rare with a drop chance of 0.03%.

Now open your calculator on your computer and do 100 divided by 0.03. You'll find out that you have a 1/3,333 chance of getting the Pet Snakeling every kill. This DOES NOT mean you are guaranteed to get it in 3,333 kills.

Picture a die with 3,333 sides on it and ONLY ONE of those sides land you the Pet Snakeling. This is called RNG or the Random Number Generator. It is possible to kill Zulrah 10,000 times and still not have the Pet Snakeling

Every time you kill Zulrah a so called 'die' is rolled with 3,333 sides on it and only one side lands you the Pet Snakeling hence the 1 in 3,333 chance.

Edited 10/10/2018 added Drop Boosters to guide

Drop Boosters and How They Effect Drop Rate

Drop Boosters give you a buff of 15% to hit the unique/rare drop table (does not include drop rates on Pets).

I'm going to show you how to calculate the 15% drop rate change. I'm going to use the Tanzanite Mutagen that Zulrah drops. Regular drop rate is 0.02%. This calculates to a 1/5,000 drop rate. To find out the 15% drop rate change open Google, type 'percentage calculator' then add:

0.02 + 15% = 0.023

Then:

100 / 0.023 = 4,348

Now you have a 1/4,348 chance instead of 1/5,000

So it only shaves 652 sides off of the die that rolls.

**Note: If you do not see a % mark next to one of the above numbers do not add it as a percentage!

I hope this guide will help the members of Alora!

Shoutout to Paine and Moe for helping me with this guide!

Very well explained, should help clarify for those learning about RNG  :D

@INeedHealing I doubt you were born with the knowledge of RNG, but hey if you were consider yourself lucky most people gotta learn things like this somehow!

A lot of people think if it's a 1/200 chance for said item they are guaranteed that item in at least 200 kills, so some people needed an explanation.

Eh.. you don't need someone to explain to you that a 1/200 drop rate chance doesnt guarantee a drop on 200th kill, plus, I've never seen anyone who actually thinks that but I'm not here to argue. I hope this tutorial helps at least one person. :)

I remember you and a few others questioning and discussing how RNG and drops worked in this server. Very well explained and helpful for new members, good job!

If the guide helps at least one person then it did its job I guess.

100/percentage is def useful to know though, there are always questions about that aspect.

Kind of triggers me that people think that A CHANCE DROP RATE OF 1 IN 200 means that they get it no matter what.

Unless it says ALWAYS on the drop table I don't think you're going to get the drop.

Some people seem to just not understand how RNG works. I tried to explain it as straight forward as I possibly could so there would be no confusion.

The mixture of colours are quite frustrating to read, just feels like it's all over the place and some are too dark to read. Nonetheless, a great explanation, hopefully many will gain knowledge from this. Thank-you, 650m!
