Hello,

I am presenting an active role that I have implemented within a community in the past which has worked quite successfully if managed properly and assessed on an active basis. The role, "Quality Assurance" will be a list of dedicated members whom meet specific requirements and or standards to which would be deemed acceptable in reference to testing, providing feedback and communicating with and or on behlf of the community in relevance to existing content and new content that would not yet be public within the server (similar to what a beta tester sustains)

Purpose of qa.pngQuality Assurance

  • Efficiently test new updates prior to public release
  • Provide extensive/qualitative feedback to new content
  • Monitor and provide statistics to already existing content (ways to improve and or increase community interest in what can be labelled "dead content".
  • Ensure all updates have been thoroughly tested, qualified members whom understand game mechanics (purpose and how certain things are supposed to work)
  • Communicate with the community to discuss existing/new content in an effort to filter qualitative feedback and produce a plan to tackle existing issue.

Standards of qa.pngQuality Assurance Applicants

  • Mature
  • Active
  • Interested in moving Alora above and beyond and producing higher standards
  • Interested in finding ways to improve Alora overall
  • Capable of providing extensive/qualitative feedback that would be used to improve and or solidify content prior or post release
  • Knowledgeable of OSRS game mechanics
  • Understanding of how to collect and filter data to efficiently provide feedback on existing content with low approval rates by the community in an effort to enchance overall content including new content.

Why consider implementing qa.pngQuality Assurance role?

Quality Assurance would work as a group to focus on isolating content that is currently not as active and or functioning as intended. What I mean by this is looking at minigames and or content that are not actively used and finding concrete ways on improving the quality of said selected contant and overall activity/approval rate by the community. Most importantly, the role focuses on testing and providing feedback on new content prior to release. Members would ensure that the content is;

  • Functioning
  • BUG-FREE
  • Viable in being a relevant and or necessary update that produces positive results/feedback (any cons that development may oversee with specific new content)

Users would need to be semi-actively monitored to insure activity is up-to-par. Group would be managed by selected staff (Global/Admin+) and have active consideration by development in relevance to sharing feedback and or reports.

------------

Kind regards,

Caliphate

100% support this would solve a lot of bugs coming intro updates, it doesn't even need to be a given rank just a selected amount of ppl that are chosen by their game knowledge and not only their friendship with staff

I'd assume the staff team would want to choose the testers themselves but nice thread :)

Was actually talking about this earlier today. Would be awesome to have some people who actually know what they are testing and know where to look.

I've mentioned this before to staff, they got a little bit defensive. But maybe this neat thread will change their mind. There's actually some good PVM/OSRS players on this server that hold alot of knowledge and know how mechanics should work. It would only make it easier for Omicron/Staff.

Jagex has also invited (streamers) top-tier PvM'ers to test big updates in the past.

As there are many skilled player's on alora i don't think there would be any problem getting a team together even if the staff team were to choose these players.

Is this just supposed to be a fancier term for a beta tester? Or closed tester? I havent been apart of the server long, but the staff team already has a group of testers I dont think theres a need for a seperate QA testers. However, if they dont already then I think this would be a perfect way to implement testers! Of course the staff team should sort through applications (not just hand this out willy nilly), but real question would be is how would they determine if someone REALLY knows game mechanics/functionality?

Same way with staff, trial and error.

I like this idea, we need a better group of players testing new content before it's been released to ensure updates get implemented smoothly. These players should ideally have extensive experience with OSRS, considering that the majority of the updates strive to emulate OSRS.

This is actually a really nice idea, it would definitely relieve Omicron with a bit of pressure being flooded with minor bugs that may present themselves after a larger update gets pushed.

Great idea, support for sure.

I agree that Alora could use some quality assurance before releasing updates and content. My concern isn't who or how players are picked to test but rather remaining quiet on what they are testing. Content leaks could stir some nasty emotions and impatience. It's bad enough there is 30+ pages on accepted suggestions and nobody knows anything on what's to come next from Dan. I'm a firm believer the hype is what helps Alora in the long run. Content leaks could have a negative effect. Then again, I could be wrong and am talking out of my ass. Only time will tell.

I agree and content leaks have already happened, why do you think some players dumped their bows and started buying raids 2 items a few days ago...

Content leaks only really stir the pot in terms of having competition being aware of what youre working on, therefore losing the edge of being the first one to do so.

As much of a good thing as this could be, the only issue is finding trustworthy people to test. Not only because of content leaks, but some might just look for bugs to abuse themselves. When Raids 2 was released, even what I would call game knowledgeable players/trustworthy players were abusing bugs and claiming "oh well it is Alora so its a game mechanic".

I'm neutral on this subject, don't think it will get accepted at all.

From what I get out of this “Quality Assurance” is basically a Beta Tester with some added things on top for tweaks to current content as well. If im being honest this could sound like a cool idea but I don’t ever see it happening in the future due to the small amount of people who actually get to test new content needing to be trusted members, and in the past to my knowledge when there has been beta access to a larger amount of people (staff members) opposed to the smaller amount we usually run now it just ends up in people messing around and not actually being useful when the beta is open seeing as it wouldn’t be run on a 24/7 server.

There have been talks on the topic previously and when we discuss it, it usually doesn’t end up being the best idea. Regardless, thank you very much for the well thought-out suggestion and taking the time to write it all out.

Have only a tight-knit amount of testers that staff trust. Maybe even apply for it, privately.

There has got to be players outside staff that they trust.
