TLDR: communicate planned updates, as well as delayed updates.

When I first joined the server, @ Omicron was doing this for raids, he was keeping the community up to date with what was being done, and what his plans were for the coming weeks. He built hype around it!

For the last 3 weeks updates have come to a slow, and continue to be pushed back. Omicron and the server would benefit greatly if he communicated better with the player base. With the loss of @ GameDevJason the coding falls on omicron alone.

We reached 600+ players regularly, and this was before raids were even out. I believe it was in large part due to strong communication between himself and the community.

Making topics about what he plans on doing with the server, and gaining feedback will also likely inspire him to continue to work hard. I've seen too many servers lose coders and have only the owner coding for the server. It works for a while, but if we want to continue to be a great server and grow together, we need updates to continue at a consistent rate. The player base can remain constant, but the veteran players will lose interest, and there will be a high turnover rate like most servers.

Omicron claimed that updates would happen last week, but they are being pushed to this weekend, the same thing happened the last update. I have no problem waiting for multiple weeks, but it's just not a good practice to not only push updates back, but to also not communicate with the community as to why.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Dev blogs are important - they keep players who currently play in the loop, and show newer players that the server is developing and isn't at a stand still. For myself, I'm relatively new - but what drew me into the server was the finalized-product feel I got. This server has tons of bosses - and RAIDS. That's huge.

The only downside I've seen so far is no construction.

Anyway, to the point - I agree. I feel like keeping the server posted on developments of the servers are of utmost importance. It keeps players excited and new people coming in when they see a server is changing and willing to evolve. If updates are pushed back, provide a reason why. Maybe it's more testing or complications that arose. Regardless, I find this completely necessary and I think most successful servers have a topic of this sort and I'd love to see a weekly Dev blog here from Omicron.

Alongside keeping us posted, this allows for us players to offer feedback and suggestions which Omicron would likely find benefitial himself. Ultimately, a private server's existence is up to the pleasing of the players, so it goes both ways.

Tl;dr - I agree with everything you said.

Nick

Knowing what content and fixes to expect or an all around better use of communication rather than mouth to mouth from greater staff position tiers to lower.

I was talking to Omicron about it right when I got demoted. I was looking into adding it to the newspaper. Hopefully someone else can do it.

I fully support this.

Especially with all the drama going on within the community about the lack of communication, it would definitely be a nice step forward to having staff and the community interact together. Obviously, if Omicron or whoever does not have the time to create this type thread, have someone else do it. Doesn't have to necessarily be staff, but possibly just a trusted player.

No-one said he died? lol what the hell.

Fully support on this suggestion. Would be great if one of the staff members/administrators was able to get some detailed information off Omicron on what's about to be coming in the next update for them to create a topic about it all for us.
